Exhibit 7
Movie Poster
Background
For this exhibit, the goal was to try something new that I hadn't done before in Photoshop, and I decided to try the double exposure effect. I wanted to create a movie poster that can give a hint of the story and at the same time create a sense of an interesting drama in the aesthetics. So I merged three different pictures to become one element that synchronizes perfectly with one another. The double exposure effect is a technique that is very popular for film poster designs because it effectively fits plenty of information about the movie in a limited space.
Design
Double exposure effect
For this effect, I blended two of the photographs to make a single image. I did this using the select tool and layer mask to cut the first image of the man portrait out of their background. Then I dragged the second image, the one with the couple, and placed it on top of the first one. After I found the right position, I processed it to change the blending mode from "normal" to "lighten".
Next, I added a layer mask to the second image, and with the brush tool, I proceeded to delete unwanted areas. For this image, I also added two smart filters: "Curves" and "Brightness/Contrast."
To add more personality to the poster I placed a third image of a forest as a background and changed the blending mode for that image to "Multiply."
I used grids and guide layouts to help me check my alignments.
I added a nice balanced contrast to the design by popping certain elements and areas around the poster.
Typography helped me to not only enhance contrast, such as the use of two different font colors, but also helped to create a hierarchy based on scale and proximity.
At the end, I added two festival logos for a more realistic look of a movie poster.

Revision
For this revision, I changed the canvas size of the poster to a verticle rectangle instead of a square. The purpose of this change was to match a movie poster more accurately. I also decided to subtract some content and manipulate the position of some of the text. To balance out the image I placed more of the content at the bottom and grouped them based on similarity in content. Lastly, I wanted some text to pop so I increased the size of some words so the text can be more readable.
