Exhibit 2

Online Magazine Design Front Page

Background

My goal was to create the layout of the front page of a travel online magazine. This summer I went to Greece and brought my DSLR camera with me. The picture on the left is a picture of me that my husband took standing outside of one of the famous restaurants in Santorini. The one on the right is one that I took while we were on a sailing tour. This place was beautiful so I decided to combine these two pictures to create contrast and give us a glance of a Mediterranean vibe. I wanted to design something that looks clean, invites people to look into it, and incentivizes traveling.

Design

  • Use of negative space for readability

  • Images contrast each other.

  • Typefaces create contrast (different sizes, styles, and colors)

  • Margin alignments are strong.

  • The title aligns pretty well with the content and the "read more" button.

  • The principle of proximity is effectively distributed around the layout. Space is used to separate content elements. The first block, title, and the content after that are separated by a large space between the larger text at the bottom.

  • Typography - Raleway family font and Anke calligraphic font for the title.

Revision

For this exhibition, I decided to only make a minor change. I updated the text to be bold in order to make it more visible and readable. I also made the text in the transparent background a little thicker to pop the content even more.
