Exhibit 6
Poster
Background
I wanted to create a poster that conveys an emotional message. I designed this poster using Pathos with the intention of engaging with the viewer at an emotional level. In order to accomplish this, I spent time looking for a picture that would fit perfectly. I wanted to make sure the image was "just right" for conveying the message I was hoping to put together. I decided to make one of the phrases a quote because quotes are a powerful form of expression and easy to remember. I then tried to take advantage of the amount of available negative space by centering everything to get the viewer's eyes directly focused on the middle.
Design
I cut out the photograph using a layer mask in photoshop.
I placed a monochromatic photo of a splash as a background to pop my black and white cut-out and bring a more dramatic look into the design.
For the typography, I used two serif family fonts, "The Suavity" which matches the style of the main element, and "Adobe Garamond" which looks like handwriting which helps to add a sense of intimate personal touch to the design.
I centered all the elements to create a nice unity which at the same time added a great balance to the poster.
I decide to go for a minimalistic design keeping everything around strongly monochromatic and adding contrast using the color text and the background.

Revision
For this revision, I decided to take the previous design and turn it into a book cover. I added some elements of content to give it a more realistic book look. I also increased the size of the title and make it bold to be more prominent. I combined big and small elements to establish a visual hierarchy and added more contrast to the design. I added a new font named "Museo Sans" for the text on the bottom part to balance my design composition. I also decided to take advantage of the negative space to leave room for breathability.
