Exhibit 5
Magazine Layout
Background
I wanted to create a very dynamic magazine layout in which the pictures are the main focal point of the pages. I focused on collecting photos with clear backgrounds with the purpose of accentuating the negative spaces. I tried to make sure the magazine showed a glimpse of European style, architecture, and lifestyle.
Design
For the design, I used the photoshop new guide layout to create grids, columns, and margins to build good alignment throughout all of the pages.
I collected pictures that showed European vibes and placed them on my layout—adjusting them to fit into specific sizes and locations.
I changed one of the pictures from color to black and white using hue/saturation to desaturate the picture to -100. I then used the curves tool to make the picture pop and bring out more contrast.
I used repetition throughout my design to figure out how the group of photos was placed and broke out some of the content into columns.
For the typography, I used Helvetica Neue light and bold to create contrast and accentuate hierarchy.

Revision
For this revision, I wanted to improve the overall organization of the content. I started by taking one of the photos and changing from black and white to color. I did this to balance out the design. I also decreased the font size to make the content more readable. It also gave it more of a magazine-page feel to the content. I added a couple of elements on the cover page to create more contrast. It works well with the color version of the image. I also improved the alignment by grouping text and images to add structure.
